Traveling with baby?
Reality hit (again) last night.
Ryan and I were hanging out with some friends, celebrating an engagement (Yeah!!), and talking about what they have planned for their wedding. It all sounded great - it'll be a traditional Chinese wedding, the bride-to-be's family lives in the Bay area, so the wedding is going to be up there in October, and our other friends mentioned that since we'll be close to Napa/Sonoma we have to take a little wine tasting side trip. We were all excitedly making plans for October.
But wait! If Baby is due in July, and the wedding is in October... he will be a little less than 3 months by the time the wedding rolls around. That'll probably be the first trip Baby ever makes. What will it be like to travel with a small infant? I'll still be nursing, so we can't really leave him with the grandparents - right? Or is going away for a few days while nursing ok? But, if we take him, will we actually be able to do things? I won't be able to go wine tasting (grrr!). We know that babies thrive on routine, so what will traveling do to our little one? Will we have to come back to the hotel every few hours so that Baby can sleep, etc? Then the actual wedding, should we take someone else with us to babysit during the wedding or take him to the wedding with us?
So many things will change come July. We are ready for all the changes, but what is so anxiety causing is that we have no idea how to plan for the future since we have not met the little person who is going to be our son. We have no idea what type of personality he will have, or what life is like with a baby in general. Maybe that's why everyone says that having the first baby is the hardest - you just have no idea what to expect!
I guess we'll find out soon enough! Eight more weeks to go!!!

Alyssa was about 4 months old when we headed down to Tucson to see my parents. It seemed that travel was easier then, than now. Of course we had all the diapers, and extra stuff...But, she never asked if we were there yet :))

It's not that hard at that age. They sleep so much, it is easier than now. SIerra is on the go at 17 months and wants to explore everything. My suggestion, bring someone, so you can go to the wedding and wine tasting. Bring the breast pump and bottles and you will be fine. They say to wait on bottles at least 6 weeks. So by then you will be fine. I remembering pumping in bathroom stalls when I was away for too long. Fun times. Sandra
