10 Months
Querido Jacob,
A few days ago you turned 10 months old. I believe that you have had the most amazing and life-changing (for both you and your dad and me) accomplishments this past month. First, you learned to crawl very shortly after your 9 month birthday (which is why it is included in last months letter), but then you started really finding your voice, walking around on furniture, and finding your independence.
Since learning to crawl, you now roam around the house as if you were inspecting your territory. It is very cute, you'll be in one room and suddenly take off to see what other things you can get into in other rooms. You are so fearless, and very curious, that you even roam around at other people's houses too! We were at a neighbors house and you took off to go explore the sights.
You are thankfully outgrowing the "put everything into my mouth" stage. You love to sit and flip through books, which makes it a little hard to read them to you since you just want to turn the pages. You seem to like things that open and close like a book, because you love to open and close cabinet doors. Since you saw me put some towels away in the hallway linen closet, you have been inseparable from the cabinet doors - you swing the door open, go to the other side of it and close it, then repeat. You don't seem to be too interested in the stuff inside of it, except for a few washcloths that get thrown on the floor.
Ever since you had some control of your hands, you have liked to drum on things - I think you are a little bongo player in the making! Now that you can stand up on things, you love to drum on everything you can and experiment on the different sounds things make. This month however, you have added something else to your drumming - dancing! You not only drum on things, but bounce up and down while you are doing it. It is so adorable!!! Anytime you hear music or any type of beat, you start dancing away, even if you are sitting.
I used to complain that you were a picky eater, essentially unwilling to eat anything besides yogurt, but you have changed that. You will eat almost anything we give you, especially if you are able to feed yourself. You'll sometimes refuse to eat if we try to feed you, but will happily eat if you can do it yourself. You love to eat cheese, kiwi, and hummus. We'll leave a spoonful of hummus on your high chair, and you will quickly gobble it up. Although, I thing you might get more on your face than actually gets into your mouth, but you love it - you grunt for more when you finish your spoonful.
This month you have definitely started to find your voice. It is so cute to hear you talking up a storm, I can't wait until I can understand you. You like to talk to your toys while you are playing or to your daddy and me. You'll even sit down with one of your books and read it out loud. That is the nice part of your talking, the downside is when you are voicing your displeasure at something, such as having your diaper changed, putting your clothes on, getting into your high chair, or taking you away from something you are not supposed to be doing. You can easily let the neighbors know that you are not happy!
This month we also celebrated my first official Mother's Day! We spent the morning at Balboa Park with your Grandma Arlene, Aunt Kim, Uncle John, Nick, and Melanie. Then, we went to Mission Bay for a picnic with your Tita and Tito, Joe, Harvey, Dean, Darren, Devin, Patty, and the Walker/Giokaris crew. It was so nice and relaxing!
Love you,
Mami
