9 Months

Querido Jacob,

A few days ago you had your 9 month birthday! It seems like you are becoming a little boy more and more every day. At your 9 month well-baby appointment you weighed 17 pounds 6 ounces and were 28 inches long. You are considered to be a very thin baby, probably because you eat like a bird (small portions and are easily distracted) and you are constantly moving. The only time we see you sit still is when you are asleep - it is quite exhausting to be chasing you around all day!
This past month we celebrated your Grandma Arlene's birthday with a day at Seaport Village and having a picnic in Coronado. We had a great time, especially since your Great-Aunt Marcela spent a few weeks in San Diego, and your Auntie Candace and Cousin Bo came to spend the night with you. You enjoyed watching Bo running around and making you laugh. Your big cousins Nick and Melanie were also quite entertaining to you, but mostly they liked watching you do your army crawl to get to them.

Your Daddy took a Monday off work to spend the day with us - we called it the Walker Hooky Day! We had so much fun - we hung around the house, then we took our lunch to La Jolla Shores and ate, played and had a great time.

Here we are at Patty and Warren's San Diego wedding reception. Although you generally love being around people, you were very tired and weren't full of smiles. We did get a fairly good family picture though.

This month you learned how to pull yourself up to stand on things. You can pull yourself up on everything! We had to move your crib mattress down so you didn't fall out of your crib. When I come into your room to get you after a nap, you usually have this look on your face, as if you were saying "Where have you been!? I've been waiting for you!" or you are standing up in your crib, chewing on the railing.

Your hair is finally growing out! You were born with dark hair, but now its turning into a very light brown, almost blonde! I like to spike it sometimes, but it makes you look bald since you can see down to your scalp. I think you look so cute!

You love to be outside! I set out a blanket in our yard and we spend some time outside almost every day. You like to look at the neighborhood kids playing in the street or just watching all the action happening from the birds to the cars passing. You are also a pro at sitting up on your own. It is so nice to be able to set you down without worrying about you falling over.

You love to practice standing up on everything! You like to stand at your toy bins and take every toy out and throw it on the floor; especially if the toy make lots of noise when it hits the ground! You also like to stand up on Daddy's radio and TV, leaving all of your prints on everything and pushing all the buttons.

This month you also learned how to feed yourself! Your pincer grasp has greatly improved and you feed yourself cheerios (you finally like them!!!), fruit, and cheese. Feeding yourself keeps you entertained and it allows you to eat with your Daddy and me without us having to keep feeding you. So nice!

The last thing you learned to do this month is CRAWL!!! You'd been doing an army crawl for the past four months, but one day you decided you were going to crawl and you did! Of course we were so ecstatic that you learned how to crawl - you look so cute. However, now you are so fast! If you were active and high energy before, now you are turbo charged. You zip around the house getting into anything, pulling things off shelves, out of containers, standing up and pulling things off our beds, the couch, anything! With that said, we are happy you are a curious and inquisitive boy.

We love you Jacob!
I can't believe it's been 9 months already!

Love,
Mami
