Mammoth Snow

Right before the holidays, the family went to Mammoth for a little time on the slopes and some rest and relaxation. This was Ethan's first trip, but being a little guy, he didn't know the difference besides the dry air. Jacob, however, had a fantastic time! Last year at 1 1/2, he liked stepping in the snow, but it didn't do much for him. This year he was all over it.

It snowed the first day, so we were stuck inside the whole day. We definitely had cabin fever by the time Ryan got back from skiing. Plus, it didn't help that our hotel room was one of the smallest I've ever stayed in.

The second day couldn't have been more perfect. The skies were blue and the day was nice and warm - for being in the snow that is. The boys and I ventured out of our little room and took the shuttle up to the mountain to meet Ryan for lunch. Jacob thought it was fantastic to walk in the deep snow and sink down. He refused to walk on the plowed sidewalk. No, he wanted to walk on the snow bank right next to the plowed snowbank. As you might imagine this took us a l-o-n-g time to get just two blocks.

His most favorite thing to do in the snow though was crawl. Yup, crawl in the snow. I have no idea why, but he spent about 30 minutes crawling in the snow right outside our hotel. The next day we met another family with a son about Jacob's age and they crawled in the snow and threw chunks of it at trees. I understand the throwing part, they are boys after all; its the crawling part that baffles me. Jacob was a frozen little boy at the end of all of his playing, but he took it in stride. Once I got all of his cold clothes off and warm, dry clothes on, he was a happy again.

We can't wait to go again and play in the snow. Plus, Ryan is always looking forward to spending some quality time with his ski gear.
