Jacob's first bike & Father's Day
Ryan bought a new mountain bike a few weeks ago, and both Jacob and Ryan are in love with it. If you hear Ryan talking about his new baby, its not of the human variety, but the metallic kind (they sleep through the night right from the get-go!). So, last week we stopped in to a bike store to look at a saddle for Ryan's new baby. While we were there, I was able to keep Jacob occupied by trying to get him to pedal on a little bike they had in the store. He surprisingly got the hang of it very quickly and before long he was riding around the store. Keep in mind, he was pedaling, not steering or pedaling fluidly for that matter.
We've had a tricycle at our house, but Jacob couldn't seem to get the hang of pedaling on that thing, so we were impressed with Jacob. As we left the store I told Ryan we should get Jacob a little bike for his birthday in a month. Of course, with new bike fever running high at our house, Ryan couldn't wait. The only thing Ryan wanted to do for Father's Day was ride his bike with Jacob. Needless to say, we found ourselves shopping for a bike the day before Father's Day.
Here's a short video of Jacob on his bike a few minutes after we got home with it:
For Father's Day, Ryan got his wish and Jacob rode his bike for hours! We spent the afternoon with the whole family in Coronado and ate, rode bikes, played in the sand, took naps, and just relaxed. It was such a nice day! Jacob did amazingly well on his bike - the boardwalk was crowded but he was able to steer (yeah!) through the crowds, start on his own, and even gain a little bit of speed. And, it was only his second day on his bike - what will he be doing later on down the road, when he really gets confident on it?!
